Sinikka Silventola - MY 5 Favorite things Mikkeli |
1. Tertti Manor is in its own league in terms of food, service, and setting. The best buffet dinner I've ever had with carefully selected, good food - not to mention the set menus and the host's wine cellar! Popular for special occasions. The yard is well maintained and accommodation is available in five intimate cabins. You can also purchase homemade delicacies, such as jellies, mustards, fresh-roasted coffee blends, and teas.

2. Theater Restaurant Holvi is a traditional place for good food. The menu and wine list are carefully put together and the restaurant is conveniently located next to the Mikkeli Theater.
»» Savilahdenkatu 11, 50100 Mikkeli. Tel +358 (0) 15 210 663.
3. Restaurant Mikko is a new establishment still looking for its customers, but the chef is committed to good food and service.
»» Mikonkatu, 50100 Mikkeli.
4. Rami's Cake Shop For good lattes and cappuccinos there is Rami's Cake Shop next to the bus station. I'm a fan of strong dark coffee and eastern Finland is probably not the best place for it. Still, the Mikkeli marketplace cafe can't be beat in summer. For lunch, enjoy some local whitefish fried on-the-spot at the marketplace. The Mikkeli marketplace is a traditional one with vegetable, berry, and flower stalls.

5. To bring home from Mikkeli The best breads in Finland are Marskin Arinalimppu (hearth-baked rye bread from S-market) and Home Bakery Siiskonen's Oatbread.
»» Bakery store about 15km north of Mikkeli on the E5, with a store in the market hall as well.
